Kieran Achara’s double-double led Glasgow Rocks to a seventh straight win over Bristol Flyers on Saturday night.

BBL Championship
Bristol Flyers 67 (6,23,52) (McFarland 23, Edozie 19, Seilund 11)
Glasgow Rocks 75 (10,36,57) (Achara 30, Hall 12, Gillis 8)

A dominant performance from Kieran Achara ensured that Glasgow Rocks remain one of the form teams in the BBL Championship, as they beat Bristol Flyers 75-67 in the south west to close the gap on the league’s top four.

Achara posted a double-double of 30 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks to see the Rocks make it five wins in six, and seven straight wins against the Flyers in all competitions.

And the tone was set early on in this game as Flyers – who had scored only 58 in each of two previous meetings with the Rocks – failed to register in the opening six minutes. It was a scrappy start, as the teams scored only two of the opening 18 shots, and it was only an Achara three-pointer that got the Rocks through double-figures after ten minutes, at 10-6.

Achara had 10 of his team’s first 19 points, and they used a run of nine unanswered just before the half time break to push their lead through double-digits on Will Hall’s ‘and-one’ play, before Achara tipped in on the buzzer for 36-23.

It looked a long way back for the hosts when Achara opened the third period with a pair of triples. But the response came through Daniel Edozie, as he scored seven in a row in a 9-0 burst, and Flyers scored the last six points of the third from the free-throw line to narrow the gap to 57-52.

They were back within one shot when Edozie dunked to open the decisive fourth period. But they could not quite get all the way back, as Warren Gillis scored six points in the fourth for the Rocks, and Achara was there again with a pair of free-throws. Achara scored twice more inside the last minute to keep the hosts at bay, and make it highly likely that he’ll feature once more in the BBL Team of the Week.
