BBL Championship
Glasgow Rocks 87 (25,39,59) (Ware 24, Bunyan 17, Grabau 14)
Bristol Flyers 58 (13,29,38) (McFarland 18, Seilund 13, Edozie 11)

Glasgow Rocks eased their way to a comfortable 87-58 win over Bristol Flyers in their first home game of 2016.

Marcus Ware led the Rocks with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes, while Jonny Bunyan and Riley Grabau both reached double figures with 17 and 14 points respectively.

The home side made a 15-4 start and never looked back as the Flyers were already facing an uphill task with the absences of Tyrone Lee and Doug McLaughlin-Willliams.

At the end of the first, Glasgow were up by 12 and the lead would remain in double digits for the majority of the encounter, though the Flyers did cut the gap to seven briefly in the second.

The Rocks began to push on in the second half and a 13-2 run saw them open up a 21-point cushion at the end of the third period. There was no let up in the fourth, and the advantage peaked at 31 points following an 8-0 run.

Glasgow outrebounded their opponents 41-34, and scored 18 points off of 18 turnovers from Bristol.

Cardell McFarland paced the Flyers with 18 points as they dropped their third straight league game, and now have a 5-12 record in the BBL Championship.

Glasgow Rocks coach Sterling Davis believes his side’s hard work in practice during their recent break

paid off last night as they handed Bristol Flyers an 87-58 defeat in the BBL Championship.

Davis’ side had not played for over a fortnight, but there were no signs of rustiness as they got off to a fast

start against Bristol, racing out to a 25-13 lead in the first quarter.

Backed by the vocal support of a near-capacity crowd at the Emirates Arena for the first home game of 2016,

the Rocks were able to maintain their double-digit advantage throughout the game, pushing the lead to 31

points (82-51) late on as the Flyers faltered.

“We played really well tonight,” said the Rocks’ boss. “The first half was a little up and down but we

responded well in the second half and turned the intensity up.”

“I thought Adam Hammerschmidt stepped into the starting line-up and I thought he did a very solid job

replacing the injured Armin Mazic."

He added, “I pushed the guys to the limit with regards to fitness in the two weeks off and they did a great

job of responding and we saw the results in the performance against Bristol.”

“They really did a great job and it was a total team effort that got us the win.”

Marcus Ware was the standout performer for the Rocks with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds,

supported by 17 points from Johnny Bunyan.

Glasgow remain fifth in the BBL Championship standings, four points behind the in-form Sheffield Sharks

who took their win streak to eight games after victories over Leeds Force and Manchester Giants.

The Rocks will play Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Trophy semi-finals if they get past Worcester Wolves next

Sunday. After seeing their 28-game win streak come to an end on Friday, the Eagles bounced back last

night to beat the Phoenix 97-87 in their Trophy quarter-final tie.
