FURY STAY TOP WITH 25PTS KNIGHTS WIN
SONY CENTRE FURY 91 STIRLING KNIGHTS 66
Scottish Senior Men Division 1 Championship

Fury found their form in the second half of a match that had seen the sides only separated by 4pts at the half. Tied at 19 apiece after the opening quarter, the Sony sponsored side had been 10-0 behind, until Lithuanian Eddie Leginas had got the first of the sides eventual 91 pts.
Fury edged their way back to tie the first and then edge the second for a slim lead at the half. But it was a strong third that saw the Falkirk side move to 16 clear going into the final stanza. 5 threes during the third from Leginas ( 2), Bantu Burroughs, Adam Hammerschmidt and Boris Matrakov saw half of the third points tally coming from downtown. The fourth quarter was similar to the third with a 26-17 scoreline to give Fury what in the end was a convincing win. Fury’s big scorers were Hammerschmidt and Matrakov who shared 40 with Leginas on 19 and Burroughs on 12. Matrakov’s Bulgarian countryman – Ivan Ganchev once again had a strong game with 5 blocks and 8pts. All the Fury team got on the scoresheet with 17 pts off the bench.
Fury Headcoach John Bunyan commented to Heraldsport after the game – ‘ We struggled in the first, with the Knights deservedly leading early on. However with a few adjustments we came back well and played some good basketball in the second half to register what is an important win and keeps us at the top of the Championship table. We have a Scottish Cup semi-final tie next week and our focus in training will be to improve on our defensive communication and continue to work on sharing the ball on offence – a key to our success this season.’
