With 21 threes in their last game over St.Mirren another historical stat was surely created in the teams win last night over Reign. After Fury hit their 50th game point, incredibly three players consecutively racked up the next 40! Austrian Adam Hammerschmidt started it with 15pts straight, that was followed by Captain Keith Bunyan with 13 consecutive, then in an amazing sequence, Lithuanian teenage pg Eddy Leginus hit 4 straight threes for 12 points, taking Fury to 90 points. Fury Headcoach John Bunyan told Heraldsport “ In my many years of playing, coaching and watching basketball I have never seen a stat line like this, but as a coach, when you do not ID your opposition’s scoring pattern then you pay. We just kept on doing what was getting us baskets and the win takes us to 3-0, a start akin to our three recent Championship winning seasons”.
Fury started strongly with Scotland Senior guard Bryan Munnoch going on a mini scoring run in the opening period when he hit 8 straight to take Fury 10-4 clear early on. Centre Ross Gibson and Leginus shared the next 12 as Fury led 22-14 going into the second period. 8 points from Keith Bunyan in the second period helped retain Fury’s lead but it was cut to only 4 at the half, 40-36.
The third was the Sony sponsored side’s best spell with a 27-17 stanza and a 14 point lead going into the final quarter. Pushing that out to 20, Fury traded baskets in the final minutes for a 15 point win that could easily have been double that. Fury Headcoach praised his players for playing through a number of on court incidents that will be the subject of club dialogue with Basketball-Scotland.
Bunyan and Leginus top scored sharing 42. They also shared 10 threes with Leginus an impressive 5 from 6 from behind the arc. Former pro Rocks player Hammerschmidt overcame a poor first half to add a further 2 points in the final seconds to his sensational 15 point run for 17 total. Ross Gibson continues to show with each game that he is a key player for Fury, scoring 10 personal, 4 of which were tip ins!
Bryan Munnoch had another solid game with 10 and Greek forward Greg Fousas worked tirelessly at both ends of the floor with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Daniel Tran, Connor Martin and Frenchman Walter Lubeigt all contributed to an important win.
Fury face neighbour’s Stirling Knights at the Peak SC in Stirling next Friday, 8pm tip and a travelling Fury support will be looking to cheer their side to a 4-0 run.
