ROCKS ON A ROLL AS THEY CRUISE TO WIN OVER FURY

Glasgow Rocks new BBL side for season 18-19 did not disappoint as they rolled to a 132 -45 win over Sony Centre Fury at Grangemouth SC tonight. The Rocks had in place all their new signings from the States and the first period set the tone for the match. Despite opening with the first points – a driving lay-up from Eddie Legunias, Fury struggled with the pace and pressure of the pro side. US College signing Kenny Carpenter hit 16 of the Rocks 31 first quarter points with Fury managing 14. The second was the same as the opening stanza with the Rocks with Scotland Internationals Gareth Murray and Kieran Achara to the fore. The score at the half was 67 to 24 but Fury came out determined to keep playing hard and included 18yr old Daniel Olubalade in their third quarter line-up. The scoreline for the period was the least of the four at 27 -11 with former Fury star Ali Fraser racking up 12pts in a row towards the end of the third.
The final spell was again all Rocks as their transition continued to put Fury on the back foot.
Despite the loss the large crowd were entertained and the first glimpse of the new look Rocks side was certainly positive and Fury can take some comfort from the fact that two of their former Rocks players – Austrian Adam Hammerschmidt and new signing Bulgarian – Boris Matrakov were unable to play as was a potential third starting 5 player – Kornelius Dauksas.
Eddie Leginas , Zygi Dauksas and Ross Gibson were the pick of the Fury players – Leginus with 10 and Bulgarian Ivan Ganchev on 9.
Fury will now move forward to Friday when they play Blaze in the Scottish Division 1 Championship, with the Falkirk side expected to be at full strength for this fixture.
