6.9.2015: Falkirk Fury - Boroughmuir Blaze 84:76
In the capital the Men were 7-0 down in the opening minutes to a lively Blaze side but Austrian Adam Hammerschmidt hit Fury’s opening 8 points, that included two threes, to take them ahead. A tight first quarter saw Fury lead 22-20 and a low scoring second period of 16-13 in Fury’s favour saw a half-time lead of 5 points for the visitors.
An entertaining third saw Fury extend their lead with a strong third stanza of 29-19. Outstanding prospect Ross Gibson hitting 10 personal in that spell. In the final period Fury threatened to run away with the game but Blaze kept pressing Fury ‘till the final seconds causing some unforced errors. Connor Martin with 7 points in the final period was another young Fury player who had a strong performance.
But it was Austrian Hammerschmidt who was the pick of the Fury squad with 21 personal and top scorer for the Champions on his debt game.
Gibson had 17 with point guard Scott Russell on 13.
Lithuanian point guard Eddy Leginus had an outstanding game, playing 30 minutes and showing what an outstanding prospect he is.
While Fury were without their captain – Keith Bunyan and pg Bryan Munnoch, they had plenty of experience to balance their young stars with Frenchman Walter Lubeigt, Greek – Greg Foussas and new signing Simon Flockhart. Ben Chok, Darren Leitch and Ross Munnoch all made immediate contributions off the bench and Headcoach John Bunyan commented – “ This was a positive and worthwhile match. Blaze are liable to be our strongest competition in the season ahead and they confirmed they will be tough opposition. In general terms I was happy with the way we performed with some very good performances to some who we know can be improved.”
