6.9.2013: Edinburgh Kings - Stirling Knights 83:46
Knights fall to Kings in season opener
The Stirling Knights Senior Men got off to a shaky start last Friday when they hosted current Playoff and Scottish Cup Champions Edinburgh Kings in the opening game of the 2013/14 season. With over fifty young players involved in Primary League action before the men's game, a crowd of over three hundred filled The Peak in anticipation of the new season.
Having lost a lot of experience from the team over the summer and with new signings still finding their feet, the Knights failed to take care of the ball in the opening quarter with Kings racking up 25 points from careless passes and ball handling errors. A much improved performance in the second quarter, including 7 points from Euan Cameron, allowed Stirling to stay in touch whilst finally giving the capacity crowd at The Peak something to cheer for.
In the third, Kings once again stepped up the pressure on the Knights forcing error after error and notching another 25 point quarter. It was only in the final stanza when Stirling started to show signs of improvement and managed to put some points on the board, taking the final quarter 21-20 with final score 83-46 to the visitors. Knights Head Coach Pete Duncan "We really started poorly against their guard pressure and after that our heads did go down. We are a young team this year with an average age of twenty for the starting five. The new guys are still gelling and we showed at some points in the game what we are all about. It was tough opener but hopefully we can make good progress as the season goes on." Top Scorer for Knights was debutant Hungarian Gergo Jenei, with 14 points whilst fellow student Adam Hammerschmidt could only manage 8 on his first appearance. The Knights Men are away this weekend to Boroughmuir Blaze.
